What Does True Repentance Mean?

Being a Christian is perhaps one of the hardest commitments that a person could ever make.  Accepting a life to be born again simply means that you are going to deny your fleshly wanting and instead give yourself over to Jesus Christ.  The New and Old Testament teaches us what sin is and gives us a way to overcome the sin. When we pray, Jesus gives us strength in order to overcome our sinful desires.  Every person on the planet has a sin that they live with each and every day.  Sometimes this sin holds them back from doing something that they know they should not be doing.  Sin is something that is hard to overcome on your own. However, with the Holy Spirit all things are possible.

True repentance means that once you tell God that you are sorry for something, you must keep your word and never repeat the same occurrence over again.  A person has truly not repented of their sin if they continuously do the same thing over and over again. When their temptation comes, they give into it instead of resisting it.  If you continue to do this, you will never find true forgiveness or repentance.  You only gain value in repentance once you fully turn away from your sin and never look back.

We may not even think that something is sin in our own eyes.  However, when we read the Bible, we recognize that we may be doing something that God objects to.  Jesus has so much forgiveness for us.  He is our messiah and brother.  We can depend on him for all things. Once we deny ourselves and start living for God, we will immediately be able to see how we changed.

Being born again means that we are no longer going to live for ourselves.  Instead, we are going to do what God tells us to do in the Holy Bible.  It will take a lot of commitment in order to become born again.  We become born again through recognizing our sin and then repenting of it.  Once we do this, we begin a journey of getting closer to Jesus and living for the kingdom of God.  If we can honestly deny ourselves, we can eventually overcome the sins that keep us bound to our fleshly body.

In order to get to know Jesus, you are going to have to take a leap of faith and just believe. Just say, “Lord Jesus, come into my heart.  Be the Lord and savior of my life.”  Once you have said this prayer, Jesus will begin working in your heart.  It is now up to you to spend some quality time with God. The Bible says that we will find God if we search for him with all of our heart.
